pen and handIdeally your doctor is your partner in taking care of your health. And to have an effective treatment you should hold up to your end in the relationship. Here are some tips to be an effective partner with your doctor.

  1. Make an appointment- Making prior appointment will ensure that you are expected. This is also the time to clarify directions on how to get to your doctor's clinic.
  2. Come earlier than scheduled- Leave early so you have plenty of time to find the doctor's office and to look for parking space. Extra time can be spent in filling up an information sheet regarding basic information and your medical history.
  3. Make a list of your Medical History- Prior to you appointment, jot down your medical history related or non-related to your visit. Also make a separate list of medicines that you are currently taking. Take any recent xray or laboratory exams which is related to your condition. Make sure to discuss with your doctor any steps you have taken prior coming for consultation.
  4. Answer the doctor's questions directly and honestly- Do not hold back any concern that you want to ask or embarrassed to ask.  Remember that your doctor is there to help you.
  5. Wear Comfortable clothes which can be easily removed if needed for the examination.
