Advanced Orthopedics for Joint Replacement

(July 11 2010) Valle Verde Federation,  Advanced Orthopedics for Joint Replacement and Merck Sharp and Dohme Philippines,  partnered together to bring arthritis awareness to the Valle Verde residents. The lecture held last Sunday at the Valle Verde 1 clubhouse was the first of six lectures for the Valle Verde community.

Dr. Benigno "Iggy" Agbayani, the speaker in the event was happy to answer the enthusiastic questions of the attendees. His lecture was about osteoarthritis and osteoporosis prevention and management. Dr. Iggy also talked about other options of managing osteoarthritis like medication, viscosupplementation, lifestyle change and joint replacement. He also said that joint replacement is usually the last option and that he would try other options first before recommending surgery.

Mr. Zalamea stated that the lecture was a "great eye opener" and "very informative"  for people suffering from joint pain.  Mrs. Fugoso, an attendee also stated that she was glad to have attended, she now clearly understand the difference between osteoarthritis & osteoporosis. Another attendee also stated that he really don't understand the difference and his doctor  wasn't very helpful in explaining, he just takes the advise of his doctor to drink medicine.

Osteoarthritis and osteoporosis are not the same, however when undermined it can cause allot of trouble. To suffer a fracture  or from great pain can definitely affect your personal life . Dr. Agbayani's advice is to be aware of these diseases and come to your trusted doctor on the first symptom.
